Fazl Ali College

Fazl Ali College is a higher educational institution located in Mokokchung, Nagaland. Inaugurated on 8 September 1959, it is the oldest and one of the leading colleges in Nagaland. The college was first set up as a private institution through the initiative of citizens such as S.C. Jamir, R.C. Chiten, T. Aonok, Dr. Longri, Imlong Chang, Khelhoshe, and Mayangnokcha. It began by sharing the building of a Government School, now known as Mayangnokcha Government School, before moving to the old Town Hall of Mokokchung. In 1969, it shifted to its present campus, about 5 km from the town center. It started modestly with just 2 rooms, 43 students, and 3 lecturers, and the government took over the college in 1962. The science stream was introduced in 1983, with up-gradation to B.Sc in 1999. The college now has 13 departments across Arts and Science, offering Honours in 12 subjects. It also introduced Functional English, a vocational subject supported by the UGC since 2001, which is unique to this college in Northeast India. A Career Guidance and Counseling Cell operates under the guidance of Nagaland's Department of Higher and Technical Education. The college's motto is 'Academic Nulli Secundus' (Second to None).
