Govt. College of Education, Patiala

Government Medical College, Patiala is a public medical college located in Patiala, Punjab, India, and is the second-oldest medical college in the state. It was proposed in October 1951 by the Patiala and East Punjab States Union government under the First Five-Year Plan, and its first batch began on 29 September 1953. Classes initially were held in the old Rajindra Hospital building before moving to the Archives Department building. The college is attached to the 1009-bed Rajindra Hospital and a 121-bed Tuberculosis Centre, also known as the Padma Shri Dr. Khushdeva Singh Chest Diseases Hospital, which began functioning on 25 July 1953. The college includes an administrative block, self-contained clinical department blocks, a library, computer centre, reading room, lecture theatres, three hostels, an auditorium, a playground, and an open-air theatre. Primary health centres at Bhadson, Kauli, and Tripuri are attached for teaching purposes. The college is governed by the Director Research and Medical Education, Punjab, and is affiliated with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. Notable physicians associated with the college include Khushdeva Singh, Sohan Hayreh, Dr. K. D. Singh, Amandev Singh, and Karanvir Singh.
