Doon University, Dehradun

Doon University is a state public university located about eight kilometers from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, in the foothills of the Shivalik range on the banks of the Rispana river. It was established by order of the Government of Uttarakhand in October 2005, with its first academic courses beginning in July 2009. Originally a residential university, it has permitted day students since 2013 and its campus covers 52.35 acres with separate accommodation for male and female students. As a State University, it falls under the jurisdiction of the Uttarakhand government, with the Governor serving as ex-officio Chancellor and appointing the Vice Chancellor, who chairs the Board of Management overseeing financial and administrative matters. Doon University is a non-affiliating institution, meaning its academic activities are organized directly through its eight constituent schools rather than affiliated colleges. These schools include the Dr. Nitya Nand Himalayan Research and Study Centre, School of Media and Communication, School of Design, School of Environment and Natural Resources, School of Languages, School of Management, School of Physical Sciences, and School of Social Sciences. The university also has a Central Library, opened in 2009, providing print and electronic resources, and sports facilities for cricket, football, badminton, basketball, and table-tennis.
