It is situated at Convent Square on National Highway 47 and was the first such college in Alappuzha district. Established in 1954 by the Canossian Daughters of Charity, an international congregation of missionary sisters, the college's foundation stone was laid on 18 April 1953 by Sri. Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, Rajapramukh of Travancore. Rev. M. Fernanda Riva was the first principal. The college offers 10 undergraduate programmes, 4 postgraduate programmes, and 2 doctoral programmes in subjects including mathematics, physics, chemistry, botany, zoology, home science, English, commerce, and history. It achieved an 'A+' grade with a CGPA of 3.44 from NAAC in 2024 and secured a position in the NIRF Band 150-200 in 2023 and 2024, along with 13th position in KIRF rankings in 2024. The college has about 1,275 students, 62 faculty members, and 22 non-teaching staff. Facilities include a hostel and computer lab.
